DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to introduce new employees to the role of the Activity Based Recovery Therapy Specialist I and to spinal cord injury. Upon completion of this course, students will have background knowledge of the neuroanatomy of spinal cord injury and how this affects day-to-day life and long-term health outcomes for individuals with paralysis.

Approach

Target Audience: Introductory level course designed to provide employees with background knowledge about spinal cord injury and to introduce the required skills for the Activity Based Recovery Therapy Specialist 1 position. This course is meant to be a prerequisite for further hands-on training in the laboratory or clinic setting.

Course Objectives

To familiarize employees with Activity-Based Recovery InterventionsAny intervention that specifically uses tools and interventions to improve muscle activation below the level of injury in the spinal cord, and does not rely on compensatory mechanisms for improving function after SCI., provide background knowledge, and introduce required skills.
This course is meant to be a prerequisite for further hands-on training in the laboratory, clinic, or community fitness and wellness setting.
